The Commission's Directorate-General Education and Culture is hosting its annual Europe for Citizens Forum on 8 November 2007, in Brussels, as part of its 'Europe for Citizens' funding programme. This year the Forum will focus on intercultural dialogue.

"As part of our annual meetings with our civil society partners, we are inviting all those concerned to join us in our discussion on how to deepen intercultural awareness among the peoples of Europe", commented the Director-General of DG EAC, Mrs Odile Quintin.

The Forum will include a debate on the Europe for Citizens programme and what it can achieve - new forms of citizens' participation, ways of mobilising citizens, and a new role for neighbourhoods in expressing citizenship. A broad-based audience of stakeholders from local authorities and civil society organisations will share their views.

The highlight of the Forum will be the presentation of Golden Star Awards to ten projects selected by an external jury for their outstanding merit. Mrs Quintin remarked: "The projects selected showcase a variety of excellent initiatives across Europe that have each contributed to raising awareness and spreading knowledge about Europe. Supporting and rewarding projects like these is our way of keeping our promise for a Europe on your doorstep, close to citizens. This is an excellent example of how Europe can help to address the key challenge of building better intercultural awareness between the peoples".

The ceremony is accompanied by an exhibition on the 10 award winners.
